The voices of

I'm thrilled to kick off an exciting poetic journey with the first instalment of 'The Voices Of', a series of four gems that I'm eager to reveal in the weeks ahead. These poetic treasures landed in my lap quite unexpectedly during a unique classroom moment.

In my other Musings for the week, I dive into my recent return to the world of education as a casual teacher. It's a path laden with challenges, yet it's an enchanting treasure trove brimming with captivating stories that I can't wait to share with you.

Think of me as an undercover reporter, infiltrating the fascinating microcosm of everyday classrooms and the educational system we all assume we know so well. My mission is to peel back the layers, sparking a critical dialogue on the role of education and the nuances of modern schooling.

The first in the series I want to share with you is the poem titled 'School,' penned by two insightful Year 6 students.

It's essential to note that I had just met these kids for the first time when they wrote these poems, their regular teacher already having chosen the theme they’d be exploring.

These poems offers a unique glimpse into the very real challenges many children encounter within the classroom and presents their unfiltered feelings about school.

In a world where children might sometimes hesitate to express such thoughts, fearing reprimand for critiquing their teachers and school, I take a different approach. My aim is to encourage these young minds to infuse their work with depth and artistry. It's about nurturing their creativity and empowering their voices.

The beauty and value of these poems struck me after we had completed the lesson. These poems are meant to be shared with a wider audience.

Sometimes, I think we paint school in a way similar to Santa Claus. As a magical realm, filled with friends, boundless learning, and unforgettable life experiences.

Yet, as children progress from kindergarten onwards, the truth of school unfolds – a five-day-a-week commitment, pulling them away from their families, and immersing them in a structured indoor institution for much of their childhood.

As adults, we often unintentionally overlook the aversion some children feel towards school. We become entangled in the web of economic demands and long work hours. We struggle to fully grasp their perspectives because, in our society, attending school is simply a given.

My mission is to amplify the voices of these young souls – the ones who challenge conventional classroom settings and yearn for a different path.

My aim is to empower them, encouraging them to openly express their thoughts, and acknowledging the authenticity of their feelings about school. These sentiments may shift from one day to the next, yet they remain their unique truths, deserving not only to be heard but also valued.

So, fasten your seatbelts. Our journey through education, creativity, and the voices of young souls is just beginning. Stay tuned for more poetic brilliance and thought-provoking insights into the world of Organic Edu.
