Six Benefits of School
As a teacher and parent, there are moments when I feel a sense of apprehension about advocating for home education, fearing that it might be perceived as lacking foresight. Undoubtedly, mainstream education offers a plethora of advantages and is widely accepted as the societal norm. For some children, it undeniably stands out as the optimal choice. In this reflection, I aim to earnestly acknowledge the merits inherent in the classroom setting, recognising the importance of embracing a balanced perspective that delves into the strengths of both educational approaches.
ONE:
FREE CHILDCARE!
This is particularly important in our complex society where both parents often need to work to provide for their families. It’s one of the main benefits of the mainstream schooling system and can be a valuable and supportive resource for parents.
TWO:
IT’S EASY!
Due to the nature of school, its an easy option for parents. They don’t need to be actively involved in their child’s day to day education and can instead focus their time on other things.
THREE:
ROUTINES!
Some children thrive in the school environment with it’s strict routines and structure. It helps kids understand what to expect of each day and can help minimise anxieties.
FOUR:
TEACHERS!
The vast majority of teachers are loving and kind, they care deeply for their students and their outcomes. Children can feel this, and develop special connections with their teachers - especially the Miss Honeys of the world.
FIVE:
SAFETY!
For the unfortunate children who come from unstable and neglectful homes, school is their happy place. It’s where they are provided with food, see their friends and get the support they need. This is why lockdown was such a poor choice for child safety.
SIX:
FRIENDS!
School is not the be all and end all for child friendships, but it’s definitely an added benefit for kids to see their friends everyday, even if they can only play during recess and lunch.
ORGANIC EDUCATION
Organic schooling is not for everyone; many parents may not want to, need to, or even see the point in deviating from the traditional school environment, and that's perfectly fine for them. However, for those who yearn for something different, who aspire to nurture their children in an atmosphere of magic, freedom, and love, I encourage you to embrace it wholeheartedly. Take the plunge, delve into the depths, and initiate the process of planning and constructing a life that aligns with your vision. The power to bring about changes that transform your family's life lies within you. You possess the keys to a lifestyle that, if it aligns with your values, is incredibly beautiful and brimming with potential. In this way, your children will have boundless opportunities to explore their limitless potential.
